Elena Kagan, Jewish Eighth at the U.S. Supreme Court?



Elena Kagan's name suddenly concern in the United States. Section, the Jewish woman who was born 28 April 1960) is a candidate for the U.S. Attorney General, who is appointed by the Barack Obama in the U.S. Supreme Court.

He is the first woman Attorney General. Kagan was formerly the dean of Harvard Law School, and Charles Hamilton Houston, a professor at Harvard University. He is also a professor of law at the University of Chicago Law School. During the reign of President Clinton, Kagan has served as Associate White House Counsel.

On May 10, 2010, Kagan Obama nominates to the Supreme Court to fill the vacancy after John Paul Stevens to retire. If there is, then he will justice be the fourth woman in the history of the Supreme Court, and the third one today. He also will become the eighth in the history of the Jewish Supreme Court.

Kagan was born in New York City, the second of the Gloria Gittelman Kagan, an elementary school teacher, and Robert Kagan, a lawyer. He had two brothers who work as school teachers.

After graduating from Hunter College High School in 1977, Kagan took AB in history from Princeton University, summa cum laude, in 1981. At Princeton, he wrote a senior thesis, the historian Sean Wilentz under which studies the socialist movement in New York City in the early 20th century. Recently talking about the Kagan, Professor Wilentz says: "It is one of the leading legal minds in this country, funny, interesting, humble, I am proud to remember from the day of graduation degree.

As a scholar, Kagan also served as editorial chairman of The Daily Princeton an. He received Princeton's Daniel M. Scholarship 1960 Sachs, one of the highest awards given by the universities concerned. It enables learning at Worcester College, Oxford University.

He grabbed Phil M. from Oxford in 1983 and earned his JD, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School. In 1986, he served as Editor of the Harvard Law Review Supervisor. Kagan never married.
